Research re-engagement is focus of June 2 virtual town hall

Research leadership from across the University of Michigan will host another virtual town hall June 2 to answer questions and provide guidance on research re-engagement efforts amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to participate in the town hall from 3:30-4:30 p.m. to learn more about how U-M is safely ramping up research and scholarship through carefully managed waves, in accordance with state regulations.

Field-based research approvals and planning for human-subjects research will also be addressed.

The town hall will be conducted via the Zoom videoconferencing platform. A U-M uniqname and password will be required. Faculty, staff and students are encouraged to submit questions prior to the event.

Rebecca Cunningham, vice president for research, will moderate a panel that includes:

  • Steve Ceccio, Vincent T. and Gloria M. Gorguze Professor of Engineering, associate dean for research, and professor of mechanical engineering, and naval architecture and marine engineering, College of Engineering.
  • Roger Cone, Mary Sue Coleman Director of the Life Sciences Institute, Asa Gray Collegiate Professor of the Life Sciences and research professor, Life Sciences Institute; vice provost and director of the Biosciences Initiative; professor of molecular, cellular and developmental biology, LSA; professor of molecular and integrative physiology, Medical School.
  • Vicki Ellingrod, John Gideon Searle Professor, associate dean for research and graduate education, and professor of pharmacy, College of Pharmacy; professor of psychiatry, Medical School.
  • Steve Kunkel, executive vice dean for research, Medical School; chief scientific officer, Michigan Medicine; Peter A. Ward Distinguished University Professor of Pathology and Endowed Professor of Pathology Research.
  • Chris Poulsen, associate dean of natural sciences, professor of earth and environmental sciences, LSA: professor of climate and space Sciences and engineering, College of Engineering.
  • Michael Solomon, dean of the Rackham Graduate School; vice provost for academic affairs-graduate studies; professor of chemical engineering, and macromolecular science and engineering, College of Engineering.
  • Geoffrey Thün, professor of architecture and associate dean for research, A. Alfred Taubman College of Architecture and Urban Planning.

The panelists are all involved in the university’s ongoing pilot wave for research re-engagement.
